Nana Yaa is a dedicated Public Health Practitioner specializing in Health Promotion. Drawing from her professional background and personal experiences, she recognized a crucial gap for survivors of generational trauma. This insight led her to establish Mending Wounds, a wellness practice with a mission to facilitate spiritual healing for individuals seeking to mend their wounds.
Story
I vividly remember sitting in my 2nd-grade classroom, listening to the morning announcements when I first encountered the word "perseverance." It was spelled out for us: P-E-R-S-E-V-E-R-A-N-C-E. The definition resonated deeply—continuing to strive for success despite the challenges we face.
That same day, I found myself on the school bus, anxiously anticipating my return home. My heart raced as I mentally prepared for what awaited me. Earlier that morning, my caregiver had threatened my life if I didn’t take my own. The previous night had been chaotic, filled with a violent altercation between her and her husband. I had tried to intervene, but as a small child, there was only so much I could do. I spent that night in terror, screaming until they finally ceased fighting. He remained in my room for the rest of the night, looming like a shadow over my sense of safety.
As I stepped through the front door, I was met with a piercing scream: "Yaa!!" My heart sank. I climbed the steps cautiously, hoping for a reprieve in her mood. To my relief, she greeted me with a soft inquiry, "How was school today?" It was a small moment, but in that instant, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. Thank God, I thought.
At just 8 years old, I learned a profound lesson: to survive the next decade, I needed to keep moving forward. I had to persevere. This early understanding of resilience has shaped my journey, driving me to support others in their healing processes and empowering them to find their strength amidst adversity.
Through Mending Wounds, I aim to help individuals navigate their own paths of recovery and self-discovery. Together, we can transform pain into purpose and build a community rooted in healing and hope.
